clarkie said Tue, 30 Jan 2007 18:14:43 -0800

I am wanting to check out some of hte areas on here that have been listed to boulder. I am so new to climbing, and still figuring out my level...with routes so far, im at 5.9/5.10 a....i only started about a month ago, but crag x doesnt rate thier boulder probs.. and I dont know how the ratings work for boulders problems....so are any of these places..like Cyberia...East Sooke...Mt. Wells or Galloping Goose beginner friendly??? Again, not sure how boulder probs are rated and i dont think many of these are rated on here.

Thanks for any help/suggestions.

Hey,
Most places have quite a range is difficulty. I would say that Cyberia is comprised mostly of medium to hard problems although they are some nice easier problems as well. If you're in town I would spend some time down at Flemming as it is close to town, and has some nice moderate bouldering. When I first started climbing I spent many sunny afternoons down there.
Mt. Well is mostly routes although I have come across some boulder problems between the Firewall and the Main Wall.

If you want a chart to compare different grades to get an idea of what to look for check out this one on the MEC site.
